The 21-year-old driver is suspected of causing the crash on the 10 Freeway

A day after a crash on the 10 Freeway in Ontario killed three people and injured several others, law enforcement officials have identified a truck driver as the cause of the crash.

Jashanpreet Singh, 21, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by California Highway Patrol officers at the scene of the crash, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department detainer log.

He was arraigned on a felony count of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and a felony count of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, according to the log.

In the crash, which occurred around 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, the driver of a big rig failed to hit his brakes because traffic was slow, resulting in an eight-car pileup, according to a CHP spokesman.

Dashboard camera video obtained by ABC7 shows the shocking moment the truck crashes into the car in front of her and runs through several other passenger vehicles before coming to rest on the truck.

Fire can be seen on the edge of the camera as a passenger car catches fire.

Three people were killed and four others were injured, officials said, and the crash resulted in several road closures that snarled traffic for hours.

According to CHP spokesman Officer Joe Garcia, the collision occurred as traffic slowed on the westbound 10 Freeway near the 15 Freeway interchange.

The incident involved four semi-trucks and four passenger cars, one of which was burnt in the fire. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene and four were taken to hospitals for treatment, Garcia said.

Among those killed were former Pomona High School assistant basketball coach Clarence Nelson and his wife, Lisa, KTLA reported. The high school posted a photo of the coach with the words “RIP Coach Nelson and his wife.”

As of Wednesday night, all but four people hospitalized in the crash — including Singh — had been released from the hospital, said Rodrigo Jimenez, a CHP spokesman.

Released from the hospital, Singh is being held without bail while awaiting his preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for Thursday.
