Revoking a commercial driver’s license will cause a major setback
To the editor: from data California Trucking Assn. tells us that most products produced, grown, or sold by truck in California at some stage of the production and distribution process (“California to Revoke 17,000 Commercial Driver’s Licenses for Immigrants” November 15). Imagine the disruption to business — and price increases on everything — from the loss of 17,000 truckers at once.
The state should delay the economic shock for a year to give some of these immigrant drivers a chance to try to renew their federal work permits and to give the trucking industry time to hire and train new drivers to fill the gap.
