High surf sweeps three people off Big Sur Beach, the second such incident in a week

High surf at Big Sur on Saturday pushed three people off the beach and into the ocean, the second such incident at Garapata State Park in a week.
Two women and a man were thrown from the rocks at Sobrinas Point around 3 p.m. Spread the news From California State Parks.
Both women returned to their river and were taken to hospital with unknown injuries, but a man who was with them, aged in his 30s, is still missing.
“At approximately 4:24 p.m., a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter spotted what appeared to be a body in the ocean, but lost sight of it due to high surf,” park officials said.
The search was called off at around 7pm due to darkness and was scheduled to resume on Sunday morning.
The missing man was wearing a white turban, black shorts, a black shirt and a black vest.
The National Weather Service warned that waves between 13 and 18 feet were expected on Big Sur and Monterey beaches through Monday night, and warned beachgoers to stay off rocks and away from the water’s edge.
“Moon tides can unexpectedly drift significantly farther from shore than normal, including rocks and jets.” Air service is offered. “Rip currents are typically more frequent and stronger around jetties, inlets and piers.”
Last week, a seven-year-old girl drowned in the sea in the same park. Both she and her 39-year-old father died after he jumped in to save her.
