The Disneyland Resort remains in a state of flux and constant reimagining. This means that some beloved attractions are sometimes singled out for destruction. This is the case for California Adventure Monster, Inc. to the rescue. Mike and Solly!which will close in early 2026 to make way for the “Avatar” ride and experience. The latter will occupy the Hollywood backlot area of California Adventure.
Disney has yet to specify an end date after limiting it to the first part of the new year. Mike and Sully to the rescue! California isn’t the main attraction, but it’s a charming one, as the slow-moving, old-fashioned family takes guests through the streets and restaurants of the fictional city of Monstropolis, where silly, cartoonish details abound. The ride was added to the park in 2006, replacing the ill-fated and disastrous Superstar Limo, a short-lived concept involving paparazzi and celebrities that lasted about a year.
No timeline has been given for the new “Avatar” ride and area, but it’s likely several years away from construction, as its arrival depends on Disneyland reimagining its transportation hub on the east side of the resort. This multi-year construction project begins in 2026.
