Artist and chef Natalia Pereira pays tribute to the coffee ritual in Brazil

O café é uma linguagen espiritual. Coffee is a spiritual language.
Growing up in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil, I was fortunate to be in contact with a coffee source. We had a beautiful tree, and I remember the flowers and the pods when they grew and turned red.
I love change. Sweet and bitter.
In Brazil, d café das duas It is a moment to pause and celebrate. Setting up includes opening old crystal cabinets, reaching for heirloom tablecloths, cutlery and special cups. The best seats are for guests.

The meeting may celebrate: visiting the newborn. Someone on bed rest. Out of town visitors. An unexpected neighbor.
Complex sweet bites made from corn kernels are also featured. Roots crack, milk turns to cheese, wood burns. Coffee is made. The smell is recognizable everywhere.

Natalia Pereiraalso known as AD105, originally from the town of Vianopolis in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil, is a popular multi-talented artist, writer and chef. Pereira’s childhood, and the imaginative tapestry of stories it contains, is the driving force behind her creations, many of which are made from elements of nature – yucca as a knotted finger and drawing medium, dried flowers and seeds as part of sculptures, and paint and colors are discarded. Pereira and her work have been featured in exhibitions at MOCA Giffin in Los Angeles and in solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, Italy, Zurich and beyond. Pereira’s book “Abundencia: My Life in Compositions” was published in 2021, and includes her compositions, stories, poetry, photography and sculpture. As head chef of his restaurant, Woodspoon, in downtown Los Angeles, Pereira has received international recognition, accolades including “Babe Gourmand” from the Michelin Guide, as well as a 2022 finalist award for “Best Chef in California” at the James Beard Foundation. Pereira lives and works in Los Angeles.
