Six years in the administration

After six years of leading the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) through change and turmoil, Stephen Pohlmans concluded his final forum as president with characteristic humor, honesty and a reminder that air cargo leadership is always a team sport.

“We have the best team in the world,” Polmans said. “The board is a big supporter and operator of TIACA. We restructured governance so that every region and every sector has a voice, and since then we’ve never struggled to participate — just for the time being, because the discussions have become so rich and so demanding.”

During his tenure, TIACA transformed itself from a traditional association to what he described as a “private industry platform” — representing carriers, handlers, airlines, airlines and digital innovators. A comprehensive review of regulatory and governance frameworks has ensured inclusiveness that reflects the growing diversity of the industry.
